7 Sizzling Tips for a Gas Safe Summer

Summer gas safety tips | Complete Property Revival

Preventing Injuries from BBQ’s and Carbon Monoxide

As the sweltering summer sunshine is upon us, it’s tempting to dust of the barbeque and get grilling – but remember, gas safety is just as important in the summer as it is the winter! Marinating your meat and pulling the perfect pork shouldn’t be your only concern this season, BBQ safety should be top of your priority list too!

You may think carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning is a just winter danger, but it can be fatal in the summer too, as gas is still used for cooking, hot water and outdoor activities.

To help keep your family and home safe this summer, follow these top tips from the Gas Safe Register:

  1. Only ever use a Gas Safe registered engineer or plumber to repair, service or install appliances, including boilers, cookers and hobs and central heating systems.
  2. Never use a BBQ inside.
  3. Smouldering BBQ’s can still emit fumes, so don’t take them inside tents, caravans or cabins.
  4. All gas appliances, including BBQ’s, should be given an annual safety check by a Gas Safe registered engineer.
  5. Always make sure a lit BBQ is within sight, but keep the cooking area well away from tents, cabins and caravans.
  6. Always follow the operating instructions.
  7. Be aware of the symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning.

CO is a poisonous gas produced when fuel burns incompletely and is made even more dangerous by the fact that we cannot see, smell or taste it.

Some warning signs of carbon monoxide poisoning include:

  • Tension-type headaches
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea
  • Tiredness and confusion
  • Stomach pains
  • Shortness of breath
